Advanced Affiliate Marketing – Using Social Media For Affiliate Marketing

Advanced affiliate marketing requires both a good knowledge of marketing and a constant eye on the trends online. Unless you’re aware of the online trends you’ll always end up as a ‘me-too’ marketer that catches on to new avenues only once you see other marketers already succeeding in that arena.

Perhaps the best example of that to date is the emergence of the social media sites, web 2.0 sites and the other various social marketing platforms that have risen to prominence in the last couple of years. Many Internet marketers and affiliate marketers either ignored social media for too long, or jumped in early, couldn’t figure out how to monetize their activities there and so abandoned their social networking activities.

Prime examples here are Twitter and FaceBook, two of the most popular web 2.0 properties. Twitter is a micro-blogging platform limited to 140 character posts, while FaceBook is a true online networking community where users connect, comment on each others’ posts, display videos and photos, play games and socialize with their ‘friends’ – other users they’ve decided to follow there. FaceBook alone has over 400 MILLION users, and any marketing pro can tell you that a demographic of that size represents a valuable target market in dozens, if not hundreds of niches. So the issue is not does a market exist on these sites, but how do you utilize the social media in your affiliate marketing mix?

Look to see who the people are that use each site… What age group, what income group, what segment of the general population? Most people will be surprised to learn that most of these sites attract better educated, older and upwardly mobile users rather than the ‘kids’ they believe are the majority on social networking sites. FaceBook stats recently released show 80% of those playing the games there are women in the 30’s & 40’s – a far cry from the stereotypical online gamer.

So once you’ve established that various social media sites are worth targeting, it becomes your task to determine how to do that effectively. Understand that social networking and social media are named that for a reason – while using the sites your prospects aren’t shopping, they’re being social. Attempts to use hard-sell tactics directly on these sites will at best result in mediocre results, and at worst either get you ignored or banned altogether depending on the sites.

Profiting with your affiliate marketing using the social media sites is a 2-step process. First, you write informational, solid-content posts on your affiliate marketing blogs on topic you feel will attract your targeted prospects from these sites, or build great reports on those topics and make them available free from your squeeze pages. You then let them know that this information is available to them for free, and provide the link so that those who are interested can get to your sites. Once they are on your blog or your opt-in list they can now be regarded as any other visitor or opt-in – if your information is helpful and well presented they’ll hang around, otherwise they’ll be gone in one click of their mouse.

Do the same with the articles you submit to the directories, with your Squidoo lenses, with your WetPaint sites, Hub Pages, etc. You can set your Twitter stream to show up automatically on social networking sites like LinkedIn, FaceBook and Google Buzz, so that tweeting your links to your articles and pages has those links show up all over your social media accounts as well – and plugins exist to automatically tweet each blog post you do too.

Additionally, don’t forget that video directories like YouTube and Viddler, web 2.0 sites like Twitter, article directories like EzineArticles and a raft of other social media sites produce RSS feeds of your content as well – embed these on social media sites that allow feeds and remember to submit those feeds to the various RSS directories too. In each case, you’re multiplying the effects of your affiliate marketing efforts with very little additional work, and the results continue as long as you’re producing new content for your feeds.

But go into it realizing one thing about social media marketing and social networking – if all you’re doing is putting your links out there in front of people on a regular basis, you’ll see some results and be building backlinks for the search engines to find, but many people will ignore most of what you post since they don’t ‘know’ you. To maximize your results from social marketing, be sure to interact from time to time with those you meet there, and put a reasonable amount of effort into building your following on each site. In other words, to maximize your affiliate marketing success with social media and social networking, socialize and network!

Using A Blog As Your Affiliate Marketing Web Site

©2010 Doug Champigny, http://captain-affiliate.com. All Rights Reserved.

One of the most powerful tools for affiliate promotion is your affiliate marketing web site, and with today’s online technology a blog is usually your easiest and best choice.

To listen to an Audio Version of this affiliate marketing article, click this arrow:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Self-hosted WordPress blogs are easy to set up, easily updated and can be indexed in many directories beyond the traditional search engines automatically. This makes doing SEO for your affiliate marketing web site much easier and lets you focus that much more of your time on other affiliate promotion strategies.

Building a money-making blog using affiliate marketing involves everything from the ads in your sidebar to the topics you write about. By keeping all your posts targeted to the particular audience you’re targeting you can build a following and start to warm them up regarding the products and services you’ll be offering them in your affiliate promotion.

Further, you can use ads and posts to drive targeted traffic to your squeeze pages and opt-in forms, thus building your affiliate marketing list at the same time. This dual purpose – building your list and demonstrating your expertise within your target niche, will constitute the bulk of your affiliate marketing work online, and can go a long way towards making affiliate marketing pay for you.

Your affiliate blogging also gives you a home base online, a great place to drive targeted prospects to from your article marketing, podcasting and affiliate marketing video efforts. While your site is designed to be a traffic magnet on it’s own, sending additional web site traffic to it using these techniques and the various Web 2.0 sites that allow business networking will help a lot for making money affiliate marketing.

Using affiliate marketing to make money online, especially with your own affiliate marketing web site, is one of the most common ways to start a home business – and setting your site up right, hooking it into the various Web 2.0 sites and using strategies like Twitter affiliate marketing to drive targeted prospects to your web site should make your affiliate marketing pay that much sooner.

The Affiliate Marketing Formula That Works Best Right Now

©2009 Doug Champigny. All Rights Reserved.

Affiliate marketing, and in fact the Internet itself, is evolving daily – leaving it in a state of constant flux. So just how is an affiliate, especially one new to affiliate marketing who may still be working at a full-time job as well, supposed to keep up with it all?

First, of course, you should be re-investing in your online business, watching for new training resources from Super Affiliates that you’ve come to trust as providing good solid up-to-date affiliate marketing training materials. And in between, you should be subscribed to their e-zines (e-mail newsletters), visiting their blogs regularly, and following them at sites like MyBlogLog, Technorati and Twitter – especially Twitter since it’s always real-time.

How drastically does the affiliate marketing game change? Just a few years ago it was all safelists, free-for-all pages and traffic exchanges – now Web 2.0 techniques, like blogging and social networking are leaving the earlier strategies in the dust.

Let’s look at the components of recent successful strategies that have made affiliates the most in commissions and prizes and continue to be ultra-effective right now, shall we?

First, almost without exception Super-Affiliates have their own opt-in lists they e-mail offers to; lists tightly targeted to whatever niche they’re operating in. If, for example, they operate in the Internet marketing, travel and Forex niches, they’ll have separate lists targeted to each of those three niches.

And that’s a win-win for the super-affiliate – their lists drive traffic to each new affiliate promotion they attack, and each new promotion is used as another opportunity to build those lists even further. They’ll offer a free download or a free video as an incentive to get targeted people to join their list – that download or video is packed with value, but still functions mostly as a pre-sell vehicle for their current promotion.

So they’ve now gotten the new targeted prospects onto their list, and warmed them up to the subject, service, niche or person they’re currently promoting. A few e-mails later those new prospects will most likely follow an affiliate link to the site being promoted, thus raising sales even higher. The super-affiliate has added more targeted prospects to their opt-in lists by providing great free content upfront, and made more money on the promotion because of it.

On the biggest launches, especially launches for high-ticket items, competition among affiliates is much more excited – and while the tactic above is still employed very successfully, something more is needed to get onto the leaderboard and end up at or near the top of the heap. Once again the answer is providing additional value-added content of good use to your prospective buyers.

If you’re on the mailing list of many top Internet marketers, you’ve recently been deluged with e-mails every time a big new high-ticket launch is announced, especially if there’s a contest for the affiliates. Notice how many of them offer bigger and bigger bonuses if you buy the item through their link? They wouldn’t keep doing that if it didn’t work, but it does – big time!

Why is it so successful when it’s so transparent a ploy? Because the customer doesn’t care WHY the bonus is being offered, they just care that they’re getting the product they want to buy and a lot more helpful resources to go with it for no extra cost. This makes the purchase more valuable to them because it provides them with more of what they want and need – they could care less about your affiliate marketing commissions.

So when we boil it all down to basics, what’s working best in affiliate marketing right now is delivering value added reasons to buy through your link while using that extra content to build your targeted lists for future promotions. Since the business never stands still, not too far down the road that will be replaced by the next system, but for now this is where you want to focus your affiliate marketing efforts!

That’s why I love the new MRR and PLR membership site from Socrates Socratous that launched this week at http://www.Resell-Rights-Fortunes.com – the first membership site that’s searchable by both keywords AND the products rights at the same time. For the first tactic above, a keyword-targeted search just for resources you can give away gives you the free report or videos to offer as an incentive for prospects to sign up – and by using one that’s based around the same keywords as the products you promote, you ensure that signups are from your target market audience.

Similarly, now you can do a search for keyword-targeted resources that both can be bundled together and can be used as a bonus for paid products, and compile your big bonuses to give away to those buying through your affiliate links, providing you with the necessary bonus package to offer for that big launch.

At this point in time, Resell Rights Fortunes is one of the most powerful resources for anyone even THINKING of getting into affiliate marketing, and a must-have tool for the arsenal of anyone targeting super-affiliate status. And if you’re already making money as an affiliate, take the OTO at the site and take the lifetime membership – you’ll have access to the site for as long as it’s online without ever paying another cent, a very valuable bonus should cashflow get a bit tight at any point down the road.

Oh yeah – and they have a killer affiliate program themselves, so take the lifetime membership or the monthly plan, and use the affiliate commissions to repay yourself for the outlay! All I ask is that you buy Teri & I a drink the next time you see us at a live seminar or convention for pointing out so valuable a resource and showing you how to use it! 😉

Advanced Twitter marketing is a very powerful affiliate marketing tool, and should be part of every professional affiliate marketer’s toolbox.

Let’s cut through all the cacaphony of amateur advice being flung around and zero in on professional marketing strategies that really do work and are being used by full-time professional online marketers every day to make hefty affiliate marketing commissions in the real world… What works right now!

We’ve talked about the need for every affiliate marketing practitioner, from newbie to super-affiliate, needing a blog for each niche they operate in. There’s no doubt about this one – from free targeted traffic from the search engines to effective pre-selling posts to list-building squeeze pages and opt-in forms, blogs are the most important tool for power affiliate marketing right now.

So while Twitter is the hottest Web 2.0 platform right now and has as many different uses as it has users, the biggest value advanced Twitter marketing has for affiliate marketing is as a targeted traffic magnet to drive your target audience to your affiliate marketing blogs.

Think about it for a minute – your blog has links to your affiliate promotions, general information for people interested in your niche (your targeted prospects), an opt-in form on each page, and probably links to one or more products or free gifts you offer, right? So if you’ve built a targeted folowing on Twitter, those people would want access to all of that too, right?

And even though we’re professional affiliate marketers, our own behaviour on Twitter gives us a strong hint in how to use the site as part of what we do… When you read through the Tweets of those you follow, which are you most likely to click on or retweet? A tweet that says ‘Buy this now…’ or one that says ‘New Blog Post: Why…’ Of course, it’s the second one, right? And your followers will behave just like you do in most cases…

So while there’s nothng wrong with sending the odd straight pitch to your Twitter followers, your most effective tweets will be announcing new blog posts and pointing people to info already on your blog. Blog posts like 27 Proven Ways To Increase Your Affiliate Marketing Commissions Now! or Affiliate Marketing Using Twitter – 7 Twitter Tips can be tweeted every few days for months. (Don’t be afraid to re-send tweets – your followers usually don’t see every tweet you send, and you gain new followers there pretty mch every day.)

Do you have blog posts that offer incentives to people who join your opt-in lists? Smart professional affiliates give away value-packed reports that include their affiliate links to related products, like those you can download free from Jeff Dedrick’s Viral E-Book Explosion. Brand the e-book with your affiliate link, put up the accompanying list-building squeeze page, then do a blog post offering your free download to your blog readers.

Then go back to Twitter and post a tweet like ‘FREE DOWNLOAD: Get your free (whatever) report today from (site)’ This a) gets people to your blog, b) gets more people onto your opt-in list, and c) gives your followers great content while also putting your affiliate links in front of them. If you’re smart you’ll also give them a copy of the squeeze page with your opt-in form removed, so they can give away your branded report to build their own lists. Not all will, but those who do will be putting your affiliate links in front of that many more people.

But don’t just barrage your followers with your own tweets – no matter how witty, funny or ‘spay-shul’ you think you are, no one of us can be the complete answer for our target markets – and no one is an island, as the old saying goes. Just as your tweets help your followers, those YOU follow will post info helpful to you, too. Don’t be stingy – pass those tweets along to our people as well. Just be sure to do them as retweets – never steal another marketer’s tweets and claim them as your own.

One final tip from my upcoming Advanced Twitter Marketing System – don’t get addicted to Twitter. Yes, Twitter is a powerful affiliate marketing tool – but it’s JUST a tool. Just as you wouldn’t use a screwdriver to drive in a nail or a blowdryer to apply blush, each tool has it’s own usage. Give Twitter 10-15 minutes of your time every 3 or 4 hours, but then shut it back down and go on with your blogging, list-building, article marketing, video marketing and the rest of the activities involved in professional affiliate marketing. Twitter deserves to be added to your strategies, bt not at the expense of your other equally-effective marketing components.

7 Great Twitter Tips for Affiliate Marketers

©2009 http://www.RoadToTwitterSuccess.com

Affiliate marketing is a fantastic way to make money online, and Twitter is a great way to increase your affiliate marketing sales. Just be careful so your Twitter experience is a pleasant (and profitable) one

Here are 7 tips that affiliate marketers should keep in mind

1. Be personal with your tweets. Don’t send out the same tweet over and over or to different people. If people are tweeting about needing holiday presents, don’t send, “Hey! Shop at my site www.blahblahblah.com” to everyone! Tweets should be personal, not canned.

2. Be genuine with tweets. Don’t try to be something you are not.

3. If you do send a sales link, send it as a natural part of the conversation. If you chat with people, eventually they will ask what you do (or you can drop subtle hints) – then you can mention it.

Continued at: 7 Great Twitter Tips For Affiliate Marketers

Twitter is an amazing & powerful tool that should be included in EVERY affiliate marketer’s strategy – done right, a single tweet can lead to hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in sales. Be sure to visit The Road To Twitter Success to learn how to master this hot Web 2.0 social networking site and use it to maximm advantage in your affiliate marketing strategies.
