Affiliate Marketing is one of the fastest ways of making money online available to the work-at-home crowd - read this affiliate marketing blog regularly to stay abreast of the best affiliate marketing tips, tricks & resources!

Two of the best-known and most-respected super-affiliates, Simon Hodgkinson and Jeremy Gislason, have just released an important affiliate marketing guide you’ll want to read… Called the Affiliate Marketing Survival Guide, this 146-page guide starts right at the beginning with a glossary of affiliate marketing terms and carries right on through to some advanced topics to help you really make money online.

If you’ve been online for any length of time you’ll already recognize Simon & Jeremy’s names, as they’ve been major players in Internet and affiliate marketing for about a decade now, possibly longer. In fact, they’ve been at it so long I can’t even remember when I first heard of either – but I DO know that I’ve bought a lot of their products over the years and we’ve been affiliates for each other at times, have competed in affiliate contests, etc, and I can personally vouch for their experience, knowledge and integrity. They became, and have remained, super-affiliates and uber-successful product producers by always over-delivering and avoiding all the sneaky little tricks affiliates have tried over the years.

Even the way they’re marketing this new e-book shows how innovative and intelligent their marketing is… Since this is an affiliate marketing survival guide they’ve tied the marketing in with the current popularity of everything zombie. For example, they point out this report can help you avoid being one of the ‘…thousands of slow-moving, half-dead affiliates shuffling around like zombies.’

Another way you can tell they’re genuinely trying to help with this e-book is it’s initial launch price – as I write this you’ll be snapping up your copy for under $10 – almost unheard of for a 146-page report from two of the biggest in the business! Even if you’re reading this after the introductory price special is over and the investment is $27 or $47, you’re downloading it already knowing it’s worth a lot more than what you’re getting it for!

I know you want to download it immediately and get into the meat and bones of the Affiliate Marketing Survival Guide right away, but do yourself a favour and read the salespage too – not only will you get a chuckle from it but you’ll learn more about great salespages too. But if you’re still in too big a hurry to put the information to use in your own affiliate marketing business then go ahead and download your copy but bookmark the salespage to go back and read it when you’ve got more time… You’ll enjoy the laugh!

Targeted opt-in lists are the lifeblood of any affiliate marketing business. Three opt-in list factors will determine how successful your affiliate marketing campaigns are and determine your income potential online: the size of your list, how tightly-targeted the list is to your niche and how much you help your readers once they’ve opted in to receive your e-mails.

Today I’ll deal with certain aspects of the first two – the third needs a whole series of posts on its own. The size of your list and how targeted it is are very closely related, as both are dependent on HOW you build opt-in lists…

If you’ve been doing ANY affiliate marketing so far, you should already know the importance of setting up list-building funnels – at least one for each niche you’re marketing to. These funnels are a simple process: an opt-in page giving away a free gift – e-book, report, audio, video, software, etc. – a confirmation page letting people know they have to click a link in the e-mail they just received, and the landing page they download their gift from. From there it’s up to you to use a pre-written e-course or regular e-zine issues to help them more than you promised to to secure their signup.

Once that funnel is in place, get your free offer in front of as many targeted prospects as is affordably and ethically possible. One of my favorite methods of promoting my free gifts is in list-building giveaways – joint-venture events put together for exactly that reason. Each participant in the giveaway promotes the event, and gets to put their gift on the site for event visitors to see. Make sure you’re adding your gifts to giveaways that are aimed at the right prospects for you – for example, as I write this I’m in two events that are looking for partners/contributors:

Kerry Russell’s Internet Marketing Giveaway that runs from Tuesday May 28th to Tuesday June 11th, 2013, and…

Stephanie Mulac’s Healthy, Wealthy and Wise Giveaway that runs Thursday June 6th to Sunday June 30th 2013.

(Both are open to new partners now, and while you’re best to get in before the launch date, you can still join and add your product right up til the end of each event.)

In these two examples I’ll use the former to build our lists in the mainstream Internet marketing and affiliate marketing niches, while the latter will help build opt-in lists to go with our fitness and weight-loss web properties. This is what I meant by targeting your funnels – even though I’m a Certified Personal Trainer, giving out reports about weight loss or building muscle to the general marketing trade would do very little to help them – or me. Similarly, offering marketing or business-building reports to the general public looking for health and wellness help would mean very few signups for the time I’ve invested – they’re not going to care that I’m a Certified Master Business Success Coach or that I have about 40 years of business marketing experience since it doesn’t relate to what they need right now. Sure, there will be some crossover, but not enough to make it a worthwhile use of my time.

Obviously you’ll be promoting your opt-in pages in other ways – on your blogs, on social media, maybe using paid solo ads or doing ad swaps, etc. – and that’s the beauty of opt-in list building funnels: their versatility. Build each one once, then use a number of ways to drive targeted prospects to the page.

One thing that always amazes me when I discuss list-building giveaways is the number of people making negative comments about them. Many point out that one gets a lot fewer signups now from each event than they did 5 years ago… So what? It’s still a free way to add dozens, sometimes hundreds, of new subscribers to your lists. Some say it’s too much trouble – but that’s a cover for them being too lazy to succeed – if they had a funnel it takes 3 minutes to get your gift listed; if they don’t have a funnel they don’t have a list and won’t be succeeding until they do…

But the remark that always bothers me is “they just attract ‘freebie-seekers’”. When I hear that I drop the topic completely, because the person has just told me they’re strictly looking to make money, not looking to help people – and I have no interest in helping people who aren’t also helping others. Plus, of course, having driven online sales of over a million dollars, I know their assessment is not just wrong, but foolish. When you pay it forward helping others, it always comes back to you one way or another!

Will leave it there for today… If you’re reading this in time and are in the IM/MMO or health & fitness niches, use the links above to get into the current giveaways. If neither is your niche, search for ‘[niche] giveaway’, substituting in the niche you’re after. If there isn’t one, consider setting one up – you may be into virgin territory, which usually means great response to the first few events. In my next post I’ll show you how to make money from your list-building efforts, money you can use to put your list-building into top gear – see you then!

Affiliate marketing is one of the easier ways to make money online, but building bigger affiliate marketing residual commissions can be a tough slog if you don’t know the key. For most affiliates, especially those just getting started, your blog is that key to bigger residual commissions.

To listen to an Audio Version for the visually impaired, click this arrow:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

These days there’s a plethora of advice about making money online. They’ll tell you to use your social media accounts to get sales – but if you’ve tried affiliate marketing on social media you already know how hard it is to get people to click your affiliate links. Others tell you your e-zines will make you the bulk of your money, and that’s true – once you have a big enough, tightly-targeted opt-in list. But just how do you build that list, and how do you make money online while you’re still building it?

And then there’s the whole issue of residual income opportunities… In order to get ongoing monthly commissions, you have to get people to take action on offers that charge them a monthly fee. Generally speaking, these are the hardest affiliate sales to make, as most buyers would rather pay once for something upfront rather than add to their ongoing monthly overhead.

So what’s the answer, the key to making bigger affiliate marketing residual commissions? Your blog. And why is your blog the key?

  • People on social media sites aren’t there to shop – they’re there to socialize and be entertained and informed. Getting them to click a marketing link is much harder than getting them to click through to a blog post that interests them. Use that blog post to warm them up and THEN send them to your affiliate link.
  • You can use your blog post to pre-sell the opportunity you’re about to lead them to. Discuss the importance of reliable, affordable hosting for their business websites before sending them to a hosting solution. Discuss the advantages of ‘being in the know’ before recommending that finance & investment membership site. Focus on how healthy they can be and how sexy they’ll look once they’re really fit before suggesting they join that exercise forum. If they’re thinking about all the benefits of membership when they click your affiliate link you’ll have a much better chance of turning that reader into a customer that earns you recurring affiliate commissions.
  • Use your blog sidebar to offer visitors related materials for free when they join your opt-in lists. An e-book, audios or videos can be a powerful incentive to a targeted prospect, and once they’re on your list you’ll be able to reach them time and again. Remember, over time your lists will evolve into your biggest source of affiliate commissions, so make sure your opt-in box is in the sidebar where it’ll show up on every post you make!
  • With a bit of thought you should easily be able to come up with half a dozen or more features and benefits of the offer you’re promoting and you can focus on one in each of a number of posts for that same offer. Do 2 or 3 posts in a row like that when you first start as an affiliate for the site then space the rest out, using one for every 3, 4 or 5 posts you make.
  • Finally, remember that each post remains online and archived on your blog, waiting for new readers weeks, months or years from now. If you’ve done proper search engine optimization (SEO) on your posts as you go along, there’s a good chance they’ll stay in the search engine listings for good, each another sign post leading back to your blog.

From there, just be sure to get as much targeted traffic to your blog as you can. Set up a ‘revolving door’ – link from your social media sites and e-zine to your blog, and be sure to have links to your social media profiles and your opt-in form on your blog. The more legitimate help you can give people on various sites online, in your e-zine and on your blog, the bigger your affiliate marketing residual commissions will be!

Granted, making money online with affiliate marketing isn’t as easy as it was a few years ago, but it’s still one of the easiest ways to earn extra income or even build a home-based business for yourself. But it’s also easy to kill your affiliate marketing business potential if you get struck with the S-O-S plague that’s running rampant in the industry today…

S-O-S, or Shiny-Object-Syndrome, isn’t a virus, but it’s sure spread like one throughout the affiliate marketing world and, in fact, throughout online marketing in general. In fact, sites have popped up and become very popular just pushing affiliates to promote every new launch that comes along – often offering a variety of new products every day.

How do you know if you’re suffering from S-O-S? Take a look at what you’ve sent out to your audience for the last week, the last month… Is there a pattern to your messages, a logical flow of resources to help your followers continually build their business or move forward in their niche? Or do your recommendations jump all over the place with nothing connecting them except that each was a new launch, a first opportunity to get a link in front of them?

If it’s the former, you’re legitimately trying to help your audience and leading them towards their own business or personal growth – a recipe for success. If it’s the latter, though, you’re falling victim and taking your fans with you.

What’s so wrong about promoting each new shiny object as it comes along?

1) It makes it obvious you’re in this just to make money, with no concern for the well-being or progress of your followers.

2) It’s not a sustainable business model for affiliate marketing as a business, since there’s no inherent growth trajectory. To succeed in building your business you need to help them build THEIR business, and you already know having them grab a bunch of unrelated products will do them no good.

3) One thing about new launches – by definition, the products are untested. Some will be a hit while others will be a dud. Once a person buys a couple of duds through your link, that formerly hot targeted prospect will be but a faint memory and no longer a source of income for you.

4) These types of products are usually quickly assembled and rushed to market to fill a currently perceived need with little or no thought to longevity. The reason they’re marketed through this type of system is to maximize the immediate return from them – after all, isn’t that why YOU’VE been promoting them too? So all of the effort you put into getting your link out there is rendered useless as soon as it’s no longer a hot item, no longer worthwhile. You’ve effectively cut yourself off from any residual profit potential from the days or weeks you’re pushing these products.

5) Your income stops as soon as you do. You’ve become a hamster on the affiliate SALES wheel instead of a professional in affiliate marketing. And you’re certainly NOT building your home-based business – in fact, quite the opposite. As people tire of the hop-scotching and you lose credibility, you’re also going to be losing opt-ins as they find more value in the messages from your competitors. And as your audience shrinks and your circle of influence dwindles, so will your profits. You’ll find yourself doing more and more work for less and less income. Take a look around online and you’ll see a lot of marketers in that boat now, while more professional marketers sail on by them.

This isn’t to say there’s never a time to promote some of them… If something launches just when you’re in the middle of teaching about the subject you may find it advantageous to get your link out there. Especially if the product is being released by a marketer you know and trust. The point is don’t make them your focus – plan out your promotions, be sure you’re leading your audience towards their goals and use only those that aid you, and them, along that path. As is the case with any marketing your sales, and thereby your profits, will be in direct proportion to how effectively you help your customers along their chosen path.

Have you ever walked into a store, bought 100 of something, then walked out with only one or two of them – or paid for 100 gallons of gas but then only pumped 2 or 3 gallons of gas into your tank? Sounds pretty silly, yet thousands of affiliate marketers do the same thing every day when they buy traffic that goes directly to their affiliate links.

Are you guilty of this major affiliate marketing mistake? Do you buy Cost Per Click (CPC) ads, ads on social media sites, solo e-zine ads, banner ads on websites, premium listings in search engines or any other such types of ads, all linked directly to your affiliate links? Let’s take a look at why this is so glaring a mistake, in light of it being so common amongst affiliate marketing methods…

Typical results for online advertising of products goes as follows: you buy 1,000 clicks from a targeted source, and of that thousand visitors you get sales from 1 – 2% of them – maybe 4 – 6% for a great offer or a spectacular result of 10% if the product is unique, timely, priced right and comes with powerful bonuses, right? Sounds both good and profitable – and it often is.

But what about the other 90 – 99% of those clicks you paid for? These people read the offer and rejected it for whatever reason – yet you still paid for them to view the site. Now they’re gone and you’ve derived no benefit whatsoever from the majority of your advertising budget. Sounds a lot like those silly examples above, doesn’t it? But what option do you have when you’re trying to build a profitable affiliate marketing business, especially in the early days of your online business when you don’t yet have a viable opt-in list to build your commissions with?

The solution is not only simple & elegant, but works equally well for super-affiliates and those just looking to start affiliate marketing. Set up your own blog, post about the product or service, and link to the product using your affiliate link – then use your paid advertising to send targeted traffic to your blog post. Suddenly you’re deriving at least SOME benefit from every click you paid for with your hard-earned advertising budget! How?

  1. The people who would have bought anyway will still buy,
  2. Effective pre-selling in your blog post can double your conversions, making buyers out of some who wouldn’t otherwise have bought,
  3. Some may not buy that product, but instead end up buying something else they see in your sidebar ads or in another of your posts,
  4. Some may subscribe to your e-zine or RSS feed, giving you more chances to put your links in front of them,
  5. Some may not buy, but find your post or overall blog worthy of mention on their social media pages,
  6. Those active on social media sites may use easy links on your blog to follow you on Google+, Twitter, Facebook and similar sites, and
  7. 100% of that traffic has just seen your name, your blog and your writing, branding you worldwide over time!

Easy to see the impact this can have on your affiliate marketing commissions, isn’t it? If you don’t have your own hosting for a blog, get that & unlimited autoresponders in one great package from http://hosting4marketers.com or if you don’t know how to install a blog get a free secure WordPress blog installer here. And by making that one small change in your marketing technique you can potentially invoke and derive profits from all seven of those points and stop paying for worthless traffic – starting today!

Professional affiliate marketing requires the use of a great many different promotional methods, and a number of common techniques and tactics are in almost every affiliate marketer’s toolbox – blogs, e-zines, forums, etc. Yet one of the most powerful tools is used only by the most savvy affiliate marketing pros…

What most affiliates miss out on is using press releases – not because they don’t know the power of press releases, not because they don’t want to use them, but because they don’t know HOW to use press releases. Writing them in an acceptable format is tough enough, but once that’s done, how do you submit press releases? Where do you submit them, for that matter.

And the cost – wow, some placers charge a bloody fortune just to get them out there for you, while others are free or inexpensive but only get them out to a few low-traffic sites. Not worth the time and trouble to write one if no one is going to see it, right?

So here’s the simple solution for you – you want to be using a site called Complete Press Release. Why them? Because they will write a press release for you and submit it to the sites that matter, all without breaking the bank.

Of course, you can write your own release and get them to submit it for even less, but unless you’re an experienced writer, why bother taking the time and trouble to write it yourself when they’ll do it for so little… Once you see their rates, you’ll most likely never write another one yourself – it’s not worth your time to create it when they’ll do it for you that cheaply!

How can they keep the rate so low? Partly because of the volume they handle, partly because there’s no affiliate program, so they don’t need to pay out any commissions on your order. I know, it’s rare that the ol’ Captain will recommend anything that doesn’t have an affiliate program, but this tool is just too good to pass up, even if I’m not making an affiliate commissions for sending you to their site. In exchange for you being a regular reader of my blog, I owe it to you to bring you the best affiliate marketing training, tips and resources, so here’s my advice…

Whether you use them to promote your blog, your squeeze page or directly to one of your affiliate links (or all 3), get the power of press releases going for you right now. Not only does it give you exposure in media you’re not able to reach otherwise, but it gets you some powerful authority backlinks as well.

And yes, I use the site myself for press releases for my niche marketing – and now so can you… Head over to Complete Press Release now and see what they’re all about – I’ll see you there!

Have you recently been trying to figure out why a new breed of affiliate marketing names are showing up above yours in affiliate contests? Are your affiliate marketing efforts being blown away by younger affiliates and work-at-home moms? Chances are you’ve been disadvantaged by competitors that are using social media far more effectively than you are!

Most online business owners who have been running their online businesses for any length of time use social media and social bookmarking sites in a very limited, one-off manor, not yet realizing many of their traditional marketing techniques have lost a lot of their power in the last couple of years. Article marketing and video marketing are still very reliable – but then those really were the start of the whole social media trend, allowing for comments, feedback and discussion and allowing others to share and/or embed the content. Isn’t that the premise that made sites like Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest profitable?

So social media isn’t new – but it’s come out of it’s infancy and is now flexing it’s online muscle. Billions of page views are generated by the big social media sites, and they’ve become a major source of traffic generation for online marketers who have mastered the art. But how are YOU doing at mastering social media marketing strategies?

Sure, you know about Facebook, Twitter, Google+, EzineArticles and YouTube – but what about Pinterest, Tumblr, Klout, Kred, Feedage or StumbleUpon? Do you know how each works, and which do help your affiliate marketing results and which don’t? More importantly, do you know how to tie them together into a cohesive marketing effort to build your traffic and your branding right now, while building an empire of online material for unstoppable long-term traffic to your sites and affiliate promotions?

I’ve just uploaded a new series of affiliate marketing training videos for you, called the ClickBank Paycheck Secrets videos.

I didn’t create these videos, and I apologize – the system they show is the most effective niche affiliate marketing system in terms of what’s working and what isn’t right now – and I knew it. In fact, I’ve been setting up something similar in the health niche lately. But as a result, I haven’t taken the time to create any new training resources for you lately – nor even to be blogging much about affiliate marketing…

Sustainable Affiliate Marketing Commissions - The ClickBank Paycheck Secrets Videos!

And that’s why I was so glad to find these Clickbank Paycheck Secrets videos. They’ll provide you with the training I should have prepared for you (and ease my conscience a bit! ;-))

Why Watch the Clickbank Paycheck Secrets Videos?

Unlike most affiliate marketing resources out there right now, these videos don’t just teach how to pick a product from ClickBank and make a few bucks promoting it. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with making money affiliate marketing, of course, but that’s not how you build a business. And far too many people are focused just on making money and not on building a sustainable income with affiliate marketing.

These videos show you how to find hot niches, how to choose the best products to promote to those niches, how to use the latest technolgies to easily raise your profile in these niches and then how to drive the targeted traffic you need to your affiliate links.

Most importantly, they show you how to set these systems up quickly, even one a day, and then move on to the next one while that one goes on making you residual commissions. Even if you only built two of these a week, you’d have ONE HUNDRED potential affiliate commission generators online a year from now…

How does that compare with what you have online now? What have you done in the last year or even two years that equals this in building your affiliate marketing business or any other way of making money online? Right now, this is what’s working in online business, and the best and most secure way to build a home-based business in the current economic climate since you’re relying on a great number of resources, not putting all your eggs in one basket.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, receive any of our newsletters, know Teri & me from social media sites or have met us in person at any of the conventions and conferences I’ve spoken at, then you already know we have over 2 dozen blogs and over 100 sites. As an Internet marketing mentor & speaker and recognized super-affiliate, would I have that many sites and blogs if one or two would suffice? Yes I love marketing, but I don’t put in any extra effort for no reason – there’s way too much I can be doing to keep building our online businesses to waste time with superfluous sites!

I talk the talk and it’s easy to see I walk the walk – ever tried searching for Doug Champigny at Google? LOL That’s the kind of branding that helps you keep on building your biz to new heights, even after our 15 years of being online full-time. YOU can be doing the same, and now the ClickBank Paycheck Secrets Videos will give you the step-by-step process to get you on the right path towards successful affiliate marketing and becoming a super-affiliate!

Do You Know How The Changes At EzineArticles Make You A Better Affiliate Marketer?

©2011 Doug Champigny – http://captain-affiliate.com
All Rights Reserved Worldwide.

As a recognized super-affiliate and affiliate marketing mentor & speaker, it’s only natural that I use article marketing, including posting my articles at EzineArticles.com, as part of my affiliate marketing promotional mix. Natural because article marketing works, provides residual traffic for years, and because EzineArticles is the biggest & highest ranked article directory online.

Let me say right up front that if you’re looking to be lazy – using PLR articles, spun articles or those written by authors with poor spelling or bad grammar, forget it! EzineArticles have top-notch editors and systems that will boot you out faster than you can say ‘adios’! If you ARE looking to be a lazy affiliate, go get an offline job – the days of lazy marketers making a killing online ended a few years back (after declining since the 1990′s).

The EzineArticles Changes Affecting Affiliate Marketing

Two of the changes made this year at EzineArticles affect affiliates, and in fact all online marketers. First, the articles you submit must be at least 400 words now. This shouldn’t be a big deal, since we marketers tend to be overly verbose anyway! ;-) If you can’t write intelligently about a product, service or topic using AT LEAST 400 words with no fluff or keyword stuffing then you don’t know your topic well enough to consider promoting it – go back and study the issue more before trying to use it in your affiliate marketing mix.

The second change is the big one – you can’t use your affiliate links in your Author’s Resource Box now. This won’t affect super-affiliates as we’d never put our direct affiliate link out there like that anywway. And this is what YOU need to change in how you’re doing your online marketing if you’ve even THOUGHT about putting your naked affiliate link online anywhere…

Affiliate Marketing Pre-Selling On Your Blogs

For years now, brilliant marketer Ken Evoy has been teaching members and affiliates at his SiteSell operation about pre-selling… The concept is simple – you attract the prospect to your own site where you ‘warm them up’ and get them into a buying mood before sending them through to your affiliate link.

Why is pre-selling so important? First, someone coming from your articles or social media marketing efforts are in ‘reading mode’ – not ‘buying mode’. Secondly, many salespages are 2nd rate at best, with most not even that good. Pre-selling gives you the opportunity to up your conversion rates by helping to overcome this downfall. But most importantly, this system means you’re developing backlinks to YOUR sites or blogs and the traffic is flowing to YOU first – then hopefully on to wherever you’re trying to direct it. Better SEO rankings from the backlinks are a big plus to everything you do from today forward, and if a prospect isn’t overly interested in the product or service you’re promoting they may just find something that DOES interest you in the sidebar or basebar links.

Higher search engine rankings, more traffic, higher conversions, residual sales, better branding & bigger commissions – any of these align with your affiliate marketing goals? Guess maybe Ken was on to something, eh? LOL (There’s a LOT more to SiteSell – for site owners AND affiliates – but this one piece of advice by itself is worth more than he charges… )

So now you can see that the changes at EzineArticles.com really are in the best interest of their reading audience AND you as an affiliate marketer because they’re helping to motivate you to professionalize your online activities and take your affiliate marketing to the next level!
